FAQs
Q: Why don't use a site like MyFigureCollection?
A: MFC is a great database and I use it to track other collections. However they do have specific criteria as to what may be included in the database, which would disqualify a lot of what I have. Rather than track the collection in up to 3 separate sites (Rubberslug also has the cels, sketches and autographs), I decided to consolidate everything in one place.
Q: How large is the collection?
A: From what I have seen it is large. However I am aware of at least 2 other collectors with more substantial collections.
Q: Is everything authentic? Are there any bootlegs?
A: Everything is authentic, i.e. produced for the Japanese market or under license for the US except as noted where the item is a bootleg or is suspected to be one. While the doujin products are not official, they were produced for the Japanese market. The display of bootlegs here is intended solely to inform the visitor and is not an endorsement of the practice.
Q: What were your sources?
A: From various places. eBay, Yahoo Japan Auctions as well as various sites. I am blessed to live in the San Francisco Bay Area, which has a vibrant anime scene, and thus some came from local brick and mortar stores and anime conventions. Several dozen items were acquired directly in Japan while a few are from Animate in Hong Kong.
Q: What is the condition of your figures/model kits?
A: All of the figures except for the bandaged Rei by Yukiwo Agewa are mint in packaging. None of the model kits have been assembled although they are missing the original shrink wrap.
Q: Do you have any favorites?
A: I particularly like the shitajiki and UCC Coffee cans for practical reasons: they are relatively small and easy to store. My interest in the UCC cans stems from their original tie-in to the End of Evangelion and for some time they were very difficult to obtain. That situation has changed with the new tie-ins with Rebuild as multiple sets have been released by UCC. I also like the original sketches I have been able to obtain as there's nothing like an original.
Q: What was the first item that you acquired?
A: It may have been the Newtype 100% Collection photo book but I can't recall for sure.
Q: How do you store everything?
A: Some of the books, games and DVDs are on shelves, while the shitajiki, phone cards, and trading cards are in binders. The posters are laid flat in a large plastic sleeve. Due to the sheer size of the collection the majority of it is boxed up.
Q: Have you been to Japan?
A: I fulfilled a longtime dream and was on Pacset Tours' Third Impact Tour in October 2014 and have been blessed to be able to make 2 more visits.
Q: Is anything for sale?
A: Sorry, any offers will be ignored.
